I have been in the field for service learning. I have seen two academic softwares I really like for students. Since I would like to be a first grade teacher these programs are mainly for the lower grades. The first software is called classroom dojo. It is an amazing program that can help students learn and help teachers create a positive classroom. It is also easy for parents to see students behavior and what is going on in the classroom. Another software tool that I saw during my service learning was reflex math. A lot of students would use reflex math after they were done with the activity. Students loved learning on reflex math and I believe it is a great tool to have in the classroom.

I have been interacting and seeing the posts that go in #fsu2040. It is really interesting to see what everyone tweets about. I believe Twitter is a very helpful resource because it is an easy tool for teachers to reach out to other teachers or to see what is happening in the educational world.

Check out my comments on Gabi's and Margaux's blogs!

  1. Hi Kayla! I also wrote about the software tool Class Dojo! It is such a fun and effective tool to use in the classroom. I would be interested to learn more about Reflex Math as it sounds like a functional software for teaching kids math!

The school website that I have chosen is my old school that I went to from Pre k to eighth grade. It is called Resurrection Catholic School. The website has not changed since I visited it back in middle school. There are some updates but it is mostly informational updates. There is even still a picture on it when I was in fifth grade. I think they need to do some updating. When you visit the teacher page it tells you all about their staff names and their emails. http://www.rcslakeland.org/ I have never blogged in my life and I think it is pretty cool. Most of our blogs consist of writing how we feel and our opinion about a topic. I really like blogging now. I have learned to be more open and get creative and fun while writing the blog. One of the new skills I acquired form the web evaluation assignment was getting familiar with making tables. When I used a table it was always in Excel and I think it is pretty cool that you can make tables in Microsoft word as well. Something ...

Flipped classrooms are when the students read the material at home of the lesson. The teacher can give helpful YouTube links to give more information on the lesson if they need to. The students then come back into the classroom and apply the knowledge they learned. It helps students learn at their own pace and creates independent learners. In a traditional classroom, the teacher teaches lessons and then tests on their knowledge later. I am personally not a fan of flipped classrooms. I think it is for much older students like high school and college. I believe the traditional classroom should be left for K-8. The digital divide can affect students' success in school because they may not have access to the internet. Their internet maybe really slow and will take hours to watch a lecture video. The student may also not be very educated when it comes to using the skills of the computer.  Some of the causes are the cost of technology, lack of skills, lack of education, and access for ...

In my plan to use technology for professional development, I will make sure that the lesson I have planned for the day is filled with videos and interactive learning. I don't want to just stand and talk in front of the classroom. I want students to be engaged with technology as they are learning. When I am at a stopping point in my lesson I would like to use a smartboard and have students go up one by one and solve the problem or answer the questions. I also would like to include videos to help them understand what they are learning better. My favorite PowerPoint was using the nonlinear interactive PowerPoint. I made it very creative and used a Disney theme throughout my presentation. I used sounds every time you click if you get it right or wrong. One thing I would've liked to add is more information on nouns, verbs, and adjectives. As I am using PowerPoint, I realize that I am getting more creative with my PowerPoint skills. Below are my two powerpoints! Check out my ...
